045 Tour & Taxis Brussels

The subject of the competition was the first new building on the historic Tour en Taxis site along the canal in Brussels. A masterplan for 50.000 m2 of offices, hotel and retail was developed next to the Royal Warehouse. An office building of 16.000 m2 was detailed for Brussels Environment, taking into account the stringent sustainability requirements.

The metropolitan block mediates between the rough canal zone and the urban development of the residential park behind it. The volumetrics with flowing lines and earthy colours respond to the requested individual readability of the various entities and refer to the grandeur of a number of powerful metropolitan buildings in Brussels.
