In the southern part of Bruges, the former school site at Boeveriepoort is being transformed into an open residential site. The enclosed school buildings make room for a versatile building that restores the appearance of the entrance gate to the city. At the edges of the plot the building ribbon acts as the border between public space and an inner courtyard. The angled facades articulate different faces towards the city and suggest entrance gates that refer to the historical character of the city. The green zones at the facades relieve the public space. The collective courtyard provides a dynamic living space and connects the residents. Internally, diverse housing units organise themselves around an inner street. As in public space, the corners of this street leave room for encounter.
