A former publishing house is being turned into a vibrant workspace for artists. A dynamic place to accommodate the versatility of creativity. Besides a ceramics and a painting studio, there is an atelier for sculpting, set design and an introverted space for writing an thinking. The two double-height courtyards connect the different ateliers and gather the artists around. Natural daylight provides relief in the urban courtyards. By day they work, at night they live. An artist couple lives in the adjacent concierge house, which also keeps the site active at night. The entrance gate is opened to the public when an exhibition takes place. This way the project links artistry to urban interior spaces and tries to reinvent a sustainable connection to the neighbourhood. By connecting enclosed urban spaces to artistry the site regains its purpose and seeks to build a lasting bond with the neighbourhood. Leaving the industrial aspects as they are preserves the layered history of the place.
